INDUSTRY INNOVATION LUNCHEON: TAKING COMPLEXITY OUT OF MOBILE BANKING SECURITY-THE FOCUS IS ON THE USER

Kevin McWey, Business Development Manager, Electronic Banking, VASCO DATA SECURITY
Steven Staley, Director of Customer Engagements & Strategic Alliances, ENDEAVOUR SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGIES

Mobile technology has created new opportunities for bankers and their customers alike. However, some of the greatest risks stem from the same factors that make banking on a mobile device so attractive. Ease of use, ubiquity, accessibility, and convenience drive the proliferation of the mobile banking apps and mobile banking adoption rates. Same exact factors create a security nightmare for the banks.

How do we expand the capabilities of the mobile channel and protect customer data, deal with lost/stolen devices, manage local storage/encryption, etc.? How do we do this with keeping the convenience of access and the ability to promote future capabilities? Financial Institutions need to ensure safe and secure transactions and interactions across the entire digital channel without jeopardizing adoption or enhancements.

This session will focus on solving the security/convenience dilemma and discuss how mobile security can and should be user friendly.

Two experts from the mobile and security industry will discuss:

  • Risk threshold for mobile banking and matching security mechanisms
  • How to protect the mobile banking app from “the rest of the phone” (secure storage, jailbreak and rootkit detection, malware)
  • How to “marry” security and convenience
  • How to implement in-app strong authentication
  • How to deal with lost/stolen devices
  • What will the user experience be like
  • Rolling out new features on a mobile platform
  • Integrating mobile banking with other channels
