Managing Director, Human Resources, Citi Retail Services
Melissa M. Erhardt is Managing Director, Human Resources for Citi Retail Services, a leading provider of private label and co-branded consumer and commercial credit card products across the U.S. Retail Services also provides retail industry expertise, including transaction data analytics, and fully integrated marketing and loyalty programs. The business services millions of accounts for many iconic brands, including Best Buy, ExxonMobil, Macy's, Sears, Shell, and The Home Depot, among others.
Ms. Erhardt delivers both strategic and operational support to more than 1,000 associates in the Retail Services organization. She has been in her current role since 2007, working with Citi business leaders to develop and retain talent while focusing on organizational design and cultural change management. Her role is critical to helping the organization maintain its focus on efficiency, effectiveness and active employee engagement in a demanding and growing business.
In mid-2013, Ms. Erhardt took on additional Human Resources leadership responsibilities, including the newly-created North America Consumer Bank’s Risk Utilities. These Utilities merged more than 2,000 employees from Citi’s core business and operations areas focused on Operational Risk Management, Risk Operations and other disciplines to serve the entire North American consumer banking organization better and more efficiently.
Since joining Citi in 1997, Ms. Erhardt has been honored repeatedly for her work, receiving nearly all of Citi’s awards for excellence, and recognized with a series of increasingly responsible roles. She formerly reported dually to the CEO of Retail Services and the Managing Director of Citi’s Human Resources geographical operating model. As the head of the Northeast Region, Ms. Erhardt led a team of over 40 human resources professionals supporting more than 12,000 employees in 20 locations across multiple business lines. She participated in numerous mergers and acquisitions, including building a start-up team for The Home Depot portfolio, and leading the staffing and integration teams for the Sears, Macy’s and Best Buy portfolios. Through those experiences, she understands what it takes to build both a business and culture. Early in her career, she held several Human Resources positions with State Farm Insurance.
Ms. Erhardt holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Michigan State University. She serves on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement in Chicago and as a Senior Sponsor for the March of Dimes. She also serves on the Plans Administration Committee (PAC) that provides additional oversight of benefit plan administration for Citi’s U.S. employees. Most recently, Ms. Erhardt was selected as one of only 30 executives tasked with leading the Global Consumer Bank’s cultural transformation effort, Power of ONE.
