Deposits Markets Program Manager, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
Since 2011, Gary Stein has served as the Deposits Markets Program Manager for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He is responsible for monitoring issues, trends, and innovations related to the consumer deposit marketplace to inform policy making, supervisory efforts, and other Bureau activities. Gary is co-lead of the Bureau’s inquiry of overdraft programs and helped to organize two public events to help improve consumer access to transaction accounts. He also led creation of the Bureau’s Guiding Principles for Faster Payment Systems and serves on the Steering Committee of the Federal Reserve’s Faster Payments Task Force. Prior to joining the Bureau, Gary co-founded and was a Partner at Capital Performance Group, a boutique strategy firm serving the financial services industry. Earlier in his career, Gary was a Principal with Furash & Company and worked at Signet Bank, Coopers & Lybrand, and Andersen Consulting. Gary has an MBA from The Wharton School and graduated cum laude from Virginia Tech with a BS in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research.
